Vale Brian Kirkland CFSVA South East President 2010-2022
Brian served as the CFSVA Branch President for the Southeast for 12 years and for several years on the CFSVA state executive committee.
Brian’s dedicated support of CFSVA and particularly his representation of the southeast ensured that the voice and views of CFS members in the southeast were heard at state level.
The CFSVA meetings at Naracoorte CFS station, hosted by Brian, where the room was filled to capacity, and even when the meeting was over, no one wanted to leave. Perhaps it had something to do with the supper, but we believe it was more a case of Brian bringing our volunteers together to share and talk about common experiences.
Part of the role of a branch president is support local members through challenging times. Brian always managed these situations with care and empathy and his local knowledge and being known by so many enable him to provide guidance to the CFSVA state as to the best approach and support needed at these challenging times.
Brian was proud of having the CFS Memorial in Naracoorte, and when CFSVA members, presidents and executive attend memorial services, Brian was always a good host and proud ambassador for the region.
The CFSVA is a strong advocate for volunteer health and welfare and Brian took every opportunity to support the association on this quest. The fact that our volunteers are now covered by some of the strongest Workcover legislation for volunteers in Australia is a testament to all who were part of this journey.
Thank you, Brian, for your service, your support, and your friendship to so many.
May you rest in peace.
